Free Equipment for Our Community
Sometimes you need a piece of equipment right away. Maybe you are coming home from the hospital, healing from surgery, or caring for a family member. Buying equipment can be costly, and insurance can take time.
That is why Disability Network Lakeshore provides individuals with disability-related equipment at no cost through our Loan Closet. Borrow what you need, use it for as long as you need it, and return it when you are done. It is that simple.
What You Can Borrow
The equipment we provide includes, but is not limited to:
- Wheelchairs — standard manual wheelchairs for getting around at home or in the community
- Walkers — lightweight folding walkers for steady support
- Rollator walkers — walkers with wheels, hand brakes, and a built-in seat
- Canes — single-point and quad canes for extra balance
- Shower chairs — seats that make bathing safer and easier
- Tub transfer chairs — benches that help you get in and out of the tub
- Bedside commodes — portable toilets for use next to the bed
Equipment availability, color, brand, or style may vary. Other types of items are considered on a case-by-case basis — just ask. If we do not have what you need, our Information & Referral team can help you find other local resources.
How the Loan Closet Works
1. Contact us
Call us at (616) 396-5326 or stop by our office at 442 Century Lane in Holland. Tell us what you need, and we will check what is available.
2. Pick up your equipment
Pick up your item at our office. Our staff will make sure it fits your needs and show you how to use it safely.
3. Use it as long as you need
There is no rush and no rental fee. Keep the equipment while you heal, travel, or wait for your own equipment to arrive.
4. Return it when you are done
Done with your equipment? Please return your item to our office so it can be used by another community member. Every returned walker, wheelchair, or shower chair goes right back to helping a neighbor.
Donate New or Gently Used Equipment
We also accept donations of new or gently used equipment. If you have a wheelchair, walker, cane, or bath safety item that you no longer use, your donation can make a real difference for someone in Ottawa or Allegan County.
Your donation helps people in our community access the equipment they need. Before bringing in your item, please make sure you can answer yes to each of the following:
Donation Checklist
- The item is clean and free of dirt, stains, pet hair, odors, and mold.
- The item is in good working condition with no broken, bent, cracked, or missing parts.
- The item is safe to use and does not need repairs.
- The item is gently used and is something you would feel comfortable giving to a friend or family member.
- The item is a type of medical equipment that someone would likely use today.
Please note: we are unable to accept equipment that is broken, damaged, excessively worn, or unsanitary. Disposing of unusable equipment costs our nonprofit time and money, which takes resources away from serving people with disabilities. Disability Network Lakeshore reserves the right to decline or responsibly dispose of items that cannot be safely reused.
