Disability Network Lakeshore ("DNL," "we," "us") is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Center for Independent Living serving people with disabilities in Ottawa and Allegan counties, Michigan. Your privacy and security matter to us. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect Automatically

When you visit our website, you can browse without telling us who you are. We do not collect information that identifies you personally just because you visit. Like most websites, the server that delivers our pages keeps standard technical logs, which may include:

Your device's internet (IP) address
The date and time of your visit
The pages you requested
The type of device and browser you used

We use these logs only to keep the site secure and working properly.

Analytics and Measurement

Our website uses Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement. These tools set cookies (with names beginning with _ga and _gcl) and send Google information about how the site is used, such as the pages you visit, how you arrived, your approximate region, and your device and browser type. We use this data only in aggregate to understand how the website is used and whether our outreach ads are working; it does not tell us who you are. Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy. These tools load only with your consent. On your first visit, a cookie banner asks whether to accept or decline them; until you accept, they are not loaded and their cookies are not set. Your choice is saved on your browser, the banner does not reappear after you decide, and you can change your choice anytime with the control on our Your Privacy Choices page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, these tools are never loaded and the banner is not shown at all. Our Cookie Policy explains each cookie and every choice you have (the site works fully without these cookies).

Information You Choose to Share

You may choose to give us personal information, for example, when you fill out a contact form, sign up for an event, request services, make a donation, or send us an email. This may include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and the details of your request.

You never send us personal information unless you choose to. We use this information only to respond to you, provide services you request, and keep in touch with you about our work.

Sensitive Information and Service Records

Because we serve people with disabilities, some information you share with us may relate to your disability or health. We treat this information with special care:

Consumer service records are kept confidential, as required by federal Independent Living program rules (45 CFR Part 1329) and the Rehabilitation Act.
We do not share information about your disability or the services you receive without your written consent, except when the law requires it, such as reporting suspected abuse or neglect, or responding to a court order.
Only staff who need your information to serve you can access it.

We Do Not Sell or Rent Your Information

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any other organization. We may share limited information with trusted service providers who help us operate, for example, a company that processes online donations, and they may use it only to do that work for us.

Donations

Donations are processed through secure, encrypted payment services. We do not store your full credit card number on our systems. Donor information is used only for receipting, acknowledgment, and required record keeping. We honor requests to remain anonymous.

Email and Communications

If you sign up for our emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any message or by contacting us. We will honor your request promptly.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 online. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Accessibility of This Policy

We want everyone to be able to read and understand this policy. If you need this policy in another format, such as large print, braille, audio, or plain-language explanation, contact us and we will provide it at no cost.

Your Choices and Rights

You may ask what personal information we have about you.
You may ask us to correct or delete your information, unless the law requires us to keep it.
You may withdraw consent for us to share your service information at any time.
You may opt out of communications at any time.

Notice at Collection and Your State Privacy Rights

This notice describes, in the format used by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state privacy laws, what we collect at or before the point of collection:

Categories of personal information collected: identifiers (name, email address, phone number, mailing address); the contents of messages you choose to send us; and internet or other electronic network activity, meaning the standard technical server logs described above plus website usage data collected through Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement cookies. If you receive services from us, service records may include sensitive information related to disability or health.
Purposes: responding to you, providing the services you request, event registration, donation receipting, understanding website usage and outreach-ad effectiveness (in aggregate), and, only if you opt in, sending our newsletter.
Sale or sharing: we do not sell personal information. Our use of Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement cookies sends usage data to Google, which some state laws may treat as "sharing"; you can opt out of these cookies at any time as described in our Cookie Policy and on our Your Privacy Choices page, both linked above. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles of you.
Sensitive personal information: used only to provide the services you request, never to infer characteristics about you or for advertising.
Retention: we keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as the law requires (for example, federal Independent Living program record rules), then delete it.
Global Privacy Control: we honor GPC browser signals. When your browser sends the GPC signal, our pages do not load the Google measurement tools at all, so their cookies are not set. We never sell personal information.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know, access, correct, or delete your personal information, to opt out of sale or sharing, to limit the use of sensitive information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. An authorized agent may submit a request for you; we will verify your identity before responding, generally within 45 days.

Security

We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using accepted best practices.

Our site links to other organizations' websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. A revised policy applies only to information collected after its effective date. We will post any revisions on this page at least 30 days before they take effect.
