What Happens When You Contact Us?
A real person will listen to what you need — no phone trees, no runaround. If we offer a service that fits, we will get you started. If another organization is a better match, we will connect you directly. That is our promise as your local Center for Independent Living.
Not sure what to ask for? That is okay. Start with our community resources page, or just call and say, "I'm not sure where to start." We hear that every day, and we know what to do next.
What to Expect When You Call
When you call (616) 396-5326, a staff member will talk with you about your situation and your goals. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or any paperwork to reach out, and there is no cost for individual services. If you reach us outside of office hours, leave a message and we will call you back — we do our best to respond within one business day. It helps if you share the best way and time to reach you, but you are welcome to call as many times as you need. There is no wrong question and no wrong way to start.
Accessibility and Accommodations
We want every conversation to work for you. Reach us in whatever way is easiest — phone, email, or fax. If you use a relay service, dial 7-1-1 and give the operator our number, and we will take it from there. If you need information in another format, such as large print, braille, audio, or a plain-language explanation, just ask and we will provide it at no cost. If you plan to visit and need an accommodation for your appointment, let us know ahead of time so we can have it ready.
Which Service Should You Ask For?
If you already know what you need, you can ask for a specific area of support:
- Questions or resource connections: ask about Information & Referral.
- Everyday living skills like cooking, budgeting, or transportation: ask about Independent Living Skills.
- Connecting with others who share lived experience: ask about Peer Support.
- Speaking up for your rights: ask about Advocacy.
- A major life change, such as moving out of a nursing home or from school to adult life: ask about Transitions.
And if none of those sound quite right, that is fine — tell us what is going on and we will help you find the best fit.
