30 years ago, people saw disability as something to be pitied. Individuals with disabilities were believed to be incapable of competitive employment, higher education, and independent living. Insufficient federal funding resulted in limited community resources and a shortage of assistive technology necessary for mobility, learning, and effective communication.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the American’s with Disabilities Act. People with disabilities now have greater access to employment, programs and services, and assistive technology to increase independent participation.
In celebration of the ADA’s anniversary, we made a series of videos that explain the Titles in the ADA. In addition, we are looking to you to Share Your Story of how the ADA affects your life today. These stories will be made into videos, written posts, and possibly audio tracks that will be available below.
